The total number of DDoS attacks more than doubled in Q4 2025 to hit 47.1 million, compared to 21.3 million in the same period of 2024, representing a 121% YoY increase.
That’s according to Cloudflare’s latest quarterly DDoS threat report, sharing the latest global attack trends and insights, including the Aisuru/Kimwolf botnet attacks which bombarded network servers at unprecedented levels.
Cloudflare says its systems mitigated an average of 5,376 attacks every hour. Other notable findings from the report include:
- Network layer DDoS attacks fueled QoQ growth: In Q4, the amount of DDoS attacks grew by 31% quarter-over-quarter. Network-layer DDoS attacks fueled that growth, accounting for 78% of all DDoSattacks.
- The Aisuru/Kimwolf botnet attack dubbed “The Night Before Christmas” reached unprecedented levels: The DDoS bombardment launched by the Aisuru/Kimwolf botnet routinely reached hyper-volumetric levels, with over 94% of attacks delivering 1–5 billion packets per second (Bpps).
- Hong Kong skyrockets to become the second most attacked location, as UK leaps up 36 places to enter the top ten: The surge of attacks in the region caused a meteoric rise for Hong Kong, increasing twelve places quarter-over-quarter, becoming the second most attacked location in the world. The United Kingdom also leapt by an astonishing 36 places, making it the sixth most-attacked place.
- Indonesia dethroned as top source for attacks for the first time in over a year: Q4 2025 saw a dramatic reshuffling of global DDoS origination, as Bangladesh rose to the top, Argentina vaulted twenty ranks into fourth place, and former leaders including Indonesia, Russia, and the United States fell back.
- Telecommunications, Service Providers and Carriers rises to the most attacked industry: The industry rises to the top most attacked industry in Q4 2025, overtaking Information Technology & Services, with the biggest changes coming from the Computer Software and Business Services industries which climbed 6 spots to the fifth place, and 5 spots to eight place.
